• Art Tatumと並ぶジャズピアノの父の一人で、EARL 'FATHA' HINESと渾名されています。サッチモのバンドにいて、御大の吹奏をピアノの右手に移してシングルトーンでアドリブするとともに、左手のリズムを微妙に変化させて、両手のバランスによる独特のスタイルを編み出して「Trumpet Style」と言われたそうな。そのエネルギッシュな演奏は万人を魅了しました。
