Zoot Sims' Groovy Tracks

- Lover, Come back to Me /from 'A Night At the Half Note/Al Cohn and Zoot Sims'(1959)
決定版は、Lover, Come back to Meです。Al Cohnと長く共演したZoot Simsですが、恐らく誰もがAl and Zootコンビの最高傑作とする盤でしょう。
- Ghost of a Chance /from 'Modern Art of Jazz'(1956)
初期のものでは、Ghost of a Chance をお聞きください。Zoot Simsが恐らく最初のピークを迎えた56年録音で、この人がレスター系と言われることを得心してください。
- Gus's Blues, The Man I Love /from 'That Old Feeling'(1956)
次は、Gus's Blues, The Man I Love等の演奏がお勧めです。これも56年の作品で、Zootの方が通りが良い盤でしょう。Modern Art of Jazzと同じで、ピアノがJohn Williamsなのです。この人のリーダー作を持っていないので、これらで我慢(^^;)しています。
- Autumn Leaves, P-Town /from 'Either Way'(1959/60)
このAutumn Leavesも素晴らしいです。ご存知Al and Zootコンビのものでは、私家録音ですがこのEither Wayは外せません。
- Body and Soul, Recado Bossa Nova / from 'Body And Soul/Al Cohn and Zoot Sims'(1973)
このBody and Soulも良いです。同じAl and Zootコンビの演奏です。Body And Soulの他にも、ボサノヴァ曲も良いですから、どうぞ。
- I Cried for You /from 'Down Home'(1960)
60年録音では、Dave McKennaとやったI Cried for Youが絶品。
- Softly as in a Morning Sunrise / from 'Zoot at ease'(1973)
Softly as in a Morning Sunriseが素晴らしい。最近CDも出たこの盤は、Hank Jonesとの共演盤です。
- I Cover the Waterfront, Easy Living /from 'For Lady Day'(1978)
このI Cover the Waterfrontの粋なこと。Lady Dayに捧げたこの盤は、我が先輩も激賞する名盤です。
- It's only a Paper Moon /From 'Basie and Zoot/Count Basie'(1975)
そして御大Count Basieと75年に入れたこの盤のIt's only a Paper Moonも良い。
- It's All Right with Me, The Very Thought of You, All the Things You Are /from 'Zoot Sims in Copenhagen'(1978)
Zoot Simsらしさの良く出たIt's All Right with Meです。78年のワンホーン盤Zoot Sims in Copenhagenで聴けます。The Very Thought of You, All the Things You Areなども素晴らしい演奏で、Kenny Drewとのコンビの良さを聞かせてくれます。
