Lionel Hamptonが訪欧楽団に引率していった若手ジャズメンが、ハンプトン御大の録音禁止令に逆らってVogueに入れた演奏が、ブラウニー名義で纏められた盤。丁度パリで、この楽団の演奏を聴いていたピアニストのアンリ・ルノーのところにヴォーグの制作者レオンが息せき切ってやってきて、明日朝、このメンバーを録音するから君はリズム・セクションを手配してくれ、と求めたので、一連の記録が残ることになったと言う。昔から、幾つかの演奏がベタ誉めされているが、Nelsonの好みは「All the Things You Are」や、「Salute to the Band Boxです。直前までバンドにいたGolsonは2ドルのギャラの差で喧嘩をしてこの楽旅に参加しなかったことを、後々まで悔やんでいたらしい。
